You know how your favourite restaurant has that one thing that’s special about it? Like it has this one really good dish or their decor is totally retro and all awesome? Lan’s has two really cool things: the front and the back.
The front is all Tom. Every time anyone walks in, that man is there greeting them. He’s a pro. Instead of cheezy one liners or having a go to line, “Hi, Welcome to Lan’s”, Tom just talks to you. You know, like a regular person making conversation. There’s no corporate shenanigans, Tom’s a personable person and he makes Lan’s the same.
The back is just as special. Monica runs the kitchen with a very apparent pride. The food comes out with intentional placement of colour and props. I don’t care what anyone says, aesthetics can add to the enjoyment taste of your meal! Not that Lan’s needs any improvement to their flavour. Every meal I’ve had there has been made with top quality ingredients, prepared like a home cooked meal as opposed to oily and salted junk you get at fast food.
The menu is a mix of asian cuisines: things like a vietnamese noodle soup, Pho (pronounced fuh), or the spicy thai stir fry, Tom Yum. Don’t tell Tom the Tom Yum is very yummy. I did that joke. He’s heard it lots before. You’ll look as silly as I did. HAH! Back to the menu, Lan’s also offers quite a few delicious veggie meals. I’ve heard it can be a real pain finding good meat free dishes that still taste great, luckily Lan’s is on the ball.
